I'm a sociology and criminal justice professor, a writer, and a photographer (not always in that order). My areas of expertise include prisons & punishment, crime, law & criminal justice policy, social inequality, and urban studies. I've published over 20 articles, chapters, and essays on these issues. In addition to my research and teaching, I serve as a consultant on death penalty/ wrongful conviction cases and commutation petitions. I received my Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Delaware. Unless otherwise noted, the photographs that appear here are mine.
